Senate Debates State Operating Budget for FY 2014

JEFFERSON CITY – This week the Missouri Senate approved its version of the Fiscal Year 2014 operating budget that funds the major departments and programs for the state. The 13 budget bills, which total $24.7 billion, include a $65.9 million increase (found in HB 2) for the state’s K-12 school foundation formula, Missouri’s primary method of distributing money to public schools. Also, public higher education institutions would see a $34 million increase (found in HB 3) under the Senate’s budget plan. The Senate’s budget for FY 2014 also includes a $500 annual salary increase for all state workers beginning January 2014. The budget bills were carried through the upper chamber by Senate Appropriations Chairman Sen. Kurt Schaefer, R-Columbia.

Full Missouri Senate Slated to Begin Budget Debate

JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Senate is scheduled to take up the 13 bills that make up the state’s operating budget for FY 2014. These budget bills always originate in the House of Representatives and are carried in the upper chamber by the chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Sen. Kurt Schaefer, R-Columbia. During the First Regular Session of each General Assembly, these budget bills are numbered HBs 1-13; in the Second Regular Session, these bills are designated as HBs 2001-2013.

First Senate Bills of 2013 Signed by Governor

JEFFERSON CITY – Before lawmakers adjourned this week, senators delivered to the governor legislation designed to promote more Missourians to buy motor vehicles from the Show-Me State instead of crossing over stateliness, keeping much-needed revenue in Missouri.
